Hotel Moxy in Lisbon uses HIMACS in key areas

Broadway Malyan was commissioned in 2018 by Krestlis Investimentos Imobiliários Sa, to design and build this innovative hotel in the heart of Lisbon. They were responsible for the architecture, interior design and landscape of Portugal’s first Moxy Hotel, an emerging hotel brand from the Marriott stable aimed at the millennial generation. HIMACS was chosen as a modern, extremely durable material, perfect for the busy reception area, as well as in the bathrooms of the guest rooms.

In keeping with the brand’s ethos and aspirations, the innovative design of the Moxy hotel focused on creating the best guest experience with a particular focus on a lobby area that would be the beating heart of the hotel. The “U” shaped dual height reception desk and bar, providing seating and standing areas, is eye-catchingly designed with modern geometric shaped tiles which reference traditional Portuguese patterns, topped with HIMACS in the solid colour Marta Grey. HIMACS is a robust, extremely hygienic and easy to clean solid surface material, ideal for high traffic areas like this reception desk. The sleek countertop offers a calm oasis amidst the explosion of shapes and colours, guests can collect their keys and enjoy a drink after a long journey and relax in the sofas or hanging chairs around a feature island fireplace.

The hotel bedrooms, by contrast, are elegant and subdued. The sleek bathroom counter made from HIMACS in the classic Alpine White colour has an integrated rectangular basin, which is seamlessly joined to the counter top, meaning there are no grooves for dirt and germs to hide. The milled hand towel holder exudes professional grandeur in a sanctuary of calm.

The podium of the hotel is wrapped in a façade of vertical columns that provide a screen to shade both the lobby and car park while also projecting a constantly changing lined shadow that animates the space as the sun moves around the building.
